The Department of Relativistic Astrophysics and Cosmology is a unit within the Astronomical Observatory of the
Jagiellonian University which coordinates research and teaching duties of its members. Research focuses on
relativistic aspects of astrophysics and cosmology. Courses taught include astrophysics, theoretical physics, computer and mathematical
methods. The Department was formed in 1995, although a theoretical research group has informally existed since 1960. Nowadays, it is a part of larger society of physicists and
astronomers in Krakow conducting research on relativity and astrophysics. The department is associated with
Department of General Relativity and Astrophysics of the Jagiellonian University and Department of Cosmic Ray Research of the Institute of Nuclear Physics.
